StyleSnap privacy policy
Effective date: 8 November 2026
This policy explains how StyleSnap – Hover CSS Inspector & Copier (“StyleSnap”), a Chrome extension published by Matheus Mello, an individual developer based in Portugal, handles information. Contact: matheus.mello.developer@gmail.com.
Local use and page access
StyleSnap is free and requires no account. It runs its bundled inspector in the selected tab when you click the toolbar button or use its keyboard shortcut. It does not automatically inspect other tabs. Browser and store pages may block access, and content inside embedded frames is not inspected.
While open, the inspector reads selected elements’ tag names, IDs, classes, dimensions and computed CSS. “With children” also reads descendants to produce CSS and a minimal HTML skeleton containing tag names, IDs and classes, without page text or other attributes. “:hover styles” reads accessible stylesheet rules and skips inaccessible sheets. CSS values themselves can contain URLs or other sensitive page information.
The inspector handles mouse and keyboard events to select elements and respond to shortcuts; it does not record typed input. It inserts a panel and highlight overlays into the document and temporarily inserts baseline elements to compare browser defaults. Page scripts may observe these document changes. Esc, closing the panel, clicking the toolbar button again, or leaving or reloading the document removes the inspector.
Clipboard and retention
Copy buttons or the C shortcut build the requested output locally and write it to your clipboard. StyleSnap never reads your clipboard. Clipboard output and anything you paste remain under your control after the inspector closes or the extension is uninstalled.
StyleSnap has no persistent data storage: it uses no cookies, local storage, databases or extension storage. Inspection state is held in document memory. Closing the panel removes its UI and interaction handlers; document-side script state can remain until the document unloads. Chrome manages extension settings and assigned keyboard shortcuts separately.
Permissions and network activity
StyleSnap requests only activeTab, scripting and clipboardWrite: temporary selected-tab access, injection of its packaged inspector and writing requested clipboard output. It requests no host permissions or storage permission.
The extension makes no network requests, uploads no inspected data and includes no analytics, advertising, tracking or remotely loaded executable code. Normal website activity and browser-managed services remain subject to their own policies.
Developer contact and your rights
